Hugh Donovan

I saw this request at the Contra Costa County message board at Ancestry.com:

"I am researching Hugh H. Donovan born 1894 Texas. He has his recollections listed on Stratton Students Recollections of San Francisco 1906 Earthquake. In around 1945-50 I believe it is the same Hugh H. Donovan that is a Judge Superior Court, Contra Costa There is also a Hugh H. Donovan #1063 listed on The History of Contra Costa - 1926. My Hugh Donovan was the son of John J. Donovan and Mary E. Murray Donovan.

If anyone could help with a look up on the above or any information it would be a great help.
Ontario, Canada"

I know that I posted the biography of Hugh Donovan on the message board, but I decided to post his obituary here for convenience. From the Oakland Tribune, 19 June 1973:

Roach

I saw this request at the Contra Costa County message board at Ancestry.com:

"Requesting an obit lookup for Michael Alfred Roach. He died on Dec. 12, 1964 in Contra Costa California. Surly there is one on him, he was a firefighter for Oakland Co. Ca."

It never even dawned on me to look for an obituary for Mr. Roach when I answered your post the other day about the Oakland Fire Department. I am so sorry for that! From the Oakland Tribune, 14 December 1964:

Fred and Hazel Irwin Abbott from Oakley, Contra Costa Co.

I saw this request at the Contra Costa County message board at Ancestry.com:

"They both died in Feb of 1973. I am mainly interested in their obits for the names of survivors, and also why they died the same month. They were my aunt and uncle and according to county rules I am not eligible to obtain death certs.

You can reply to me directly at venturaoma@sbcglobal.net

Thank you!"

Unfortunately, I was unable to locate Hazel's obituary, but I found one for Frederick in the Oakland Tribune:

Oakland Tribune, 11 February 1973
(Please click image to enlarge)

The Contra Costa County Library may be able to locate Hazel's obituary. This is a free service. When filling out the form, you will need to know that Hazel died on the 16th of February.

I also know of no limitation on receiving death certificate from Contra Costa County. You may obtain an Informational Copy of a death certificate online through the California Department Of Public Health. Just click on Application for Certified Copy of Death Certificate and fill in the box for "Certified Informational Copy".
